I love My shop! An interview with USA stockist Cats Like Us

Tell us a little bit about who you are and where we can find your store?

Andrew and I have always loved vintage fashion, mid-century modern design and architecture, tiki and tiki drinks, and of course cats. We started Cats Like Us with a vision of bringing the best quality retro style to the area.

Our boutique is located in Tonawanda, NY (a suburb of Buffalo) which has a very “Main Street USA” sort of feel. There are several other restaurants and businesses in our area such as antique stores, pinup photography studio, and atomic hair salon and barbershop which makes it a nice destination location. Does your store have a theme or focus?

We sell the best in NEW Rockabilly and Pinup clothing -- basically classic 1940s & 1950s style but with great fabrics, fun and edgy novelty prints, in modern sizing ranging from XS-4X.

The theme is a combination of “Classic style for the everyday girl” and “Retro With and Edge”, but accessible to most people. We especially love vintage styles that are wearable, that don’t feel like costumes, and that anyone can be comfortable in at any age.

We are especially proud that many of our brands are made in the USA.

What kind of products and brands do you stock?

Our primary focus is women’s retro clothing, but we sell men’s shirts, accessories, and even a few gift items. We carry a curated collection of some of the best brands available including Heart of Haute, Steady Clothing, Sourpuss, Lucky 13, Suavecito, and of course - Jubly Umph!

What things are inspiring you lately?

My daily dress inspiration comes from things around me. With the weather warming up I’m looking forward to wearing more breezy summer dresses and I’m always looking for unique color combinations that I can pull from my already existing wardrobe to create a vintage look. I especially like red and turquoise together. It reminds me of my grandma’s 1950s kitchen.

My love of cats keeps me positive. Cats Like Us is always trying to work with local shelters to help make this world a better place for animals. Locally, we do a fundraiser every year in March for the SPCA and next month we’ll be working with the Pet Emergency Fund which is ALL donation based. We’ll be donating 15% of our sales both in store and online to them. I’m always inspired by fashion, but we don’t make our own line of clothing... yet. We talk about it so maybe we will someday!
