‘Oh that’s a bit different’ a woman once said to me in the supermarket, nodding towards my brightly coloured hair.
She was being sarcastic of course and really meant it as an insult.
But when you have gone through your life experiencing snide comments about the way you dress and the way you look and the things you get excited about, you let words like this slide over you.

‘Thanks’ was all I said with a big smile and an upbeat tone much to her annoyance.
I’m not sure why this particular interaction has always stuck in my head, unburying itself at obscure moments.

Maybe it’s because, at that moment, I was proud of who I was and the way I expressed myself, whereas in the past I had been embarrassed and hurt.
Maybe it is to remind myself that, being odd and different and weird is good and wonderful.

I have been making a new series of artworks around this theme and they are coming this week as enamel pins and stickers!
This collection is for the mischief makers, the chaotic curators and gatherers of delightful things.

It’s a reminder that the world doesn’t need more beige, it needs more wonderfully strange and odd humans.
