7 Alternative Xmas Films For You To Watch This Weekend

7 Alternative Christmas films to watch this weekend as suggested by you. Image of popcorn and Christmas ornaments on a black background.
Things are finally slowing down at Jubly headquarters (phew!) so we asked our followers for some of their favourite December movie recs, and discovered some real gems have flown under the radar! If you feel like adding something new to the mix this year, check out these suggestions; we certainly will!

Not your typical Christmas rom-com. Katerina, who works as a Christmas elf in London, meets Tom, and it changes her life. Themes of redemption, personal growth and love are interwoven in this warm and festive story written by Emma Thompson.

While it isn't exactly cosy, this horror/fantasy/comedy based on the Austrian legend is great fun, especially if you're snuggled under a blanket in a really well lit house.

Semi-biographical film by Clea Duval about coming out at Christmas. The cast is amazing, and the ending is happy.

Disney pokes fun at their own genre in this light-hearted picture about a godmother-in-training. The important lesson? You don't need a handsome prince to achieve your Happily Ever After.

The grandmother of the modern slasher film! This film has it all, strong female leads, edge-of-your-seat thrills, and it goes lightly on the gore, so you can safely eat your mince pies whilst watching. NOTE: There have been two 21st-century remakes, neither is as good as the original.

Against the backdrop of a 1950’s Manhatten in December, a shopgirl falls in love with a woman trapped in a loveless marriage. A quiet, subtle, and beautiful film.

If you’ve seen the Home Alone films one too many times, or can't stand the thought of that cameo in Home Alone 2, why not revisit this childhood classic for a hit of nostalgia? After all, it does take place at Christmas!

Now, don’t get us wrong, the classics are classics for a reason! If you're craving your yearly dose of Victorian-era Muppets, Bruce Willis climbing through impossibly large vents in Nakatomi Plaza, or Alan Rickman breaking poor Emma Thompson’s heart, you should absolutely go for it.

But if you do decide to watch one of the films above, or you have some more suggestions, please let us know in the comments!

DON'T FORGET, $1 SHIPPING AVAILABLE AUSTRALIA-WIDE UNTIL 11:59PM 19/12/25 AEDT!!!
